Honored to have my artwork, "Breathe In Through the Heart," newly acquired for the Permanent Collection of the Museum of Encaustic Art / Encaustic Art Institute! This 12x12x2" mixed media encaustic artwork is special. 1 of 4 in a series that goes within to reconnect to the natural spaces only we know. Okay, all of my pieces are special. ;-) But THIS one is so poignant for this moment of letting go of the past, releasing old facades, and accepting all you are on the inside. Sounds great, right? But that can be merky at times. We've hid behind acceptable facades and others' expectations that did not appreciate all of who we are for so long that we can lose touch with what we desire and who we truly are. This work's process is just as relevant as the images and icons used in it: build up layers of wax, and paper and and passionate marks of paint, watercolor, and gouache, and ink, cut away, add nature with Birch tree bark — the heart is a torn page from Jung's "Man and His Symbols" — Scraping, scraping, burning away that which surrounds the Being, reconnection intimately to the simple things; dried flowers, petal by petal, fill out the insides and recreate the form. Cut away the mask leaving a hollow faceless canvas that releases and contains/accepts all things ready to go. Let go. Create again. Paint it in with a detailed brush and sharp tool. Cut away, wipe away, burn away anything that blocks the truth so we can breathe deeply into the heart again. Grateful for the opportunity to share my creativity and the layers of its process and meaning with you here and, now, at the Museum of Encaustic Art in posterity. <3 This artwork will be part of an exhibition to be announced soon. #iea_encaustic #mixedmediaencaustic #expressionism

Every year on my birthday I try to do something that sets the stage for my next trip around the sun — do the things that I want more of in my life. For this one I let my solar plexus lead me to the park to finalize the abundance ritual I did for the recent All Hallows' Eve/Samhain full moon meditation.
